We awoke to the first real snow of the season today. I was anxious to see what the ladies would think of the new ground cover...
"After you,

No after you....."
This went on for quite a while.
"Ick.
Cold.
Are you kidding?
What is this stuff?
Where not coming out in this?
What...NO BOOTS?
What are you trying to do to us?"
"You've got to be kidding me."
Needless to say, the ladies didn't come out today.

I am reading this really great book...and it is truly spuring me on to have chickens. Sarah is mentoring/"egging me on to" having chickens this spring. Your ladies are just too cute Leigh.
Love it...they are so cute. They may not like the snow...but I think it's beautiful! Color me envious....
Hee! Hee! My chicken do not even what to venture out anymore! It's pretty cold around here lately and every time I open their door they look at me like I have lost my mind!! But what can't you make a hen do with a little piece of bread?
The "girls" look good even in the snow! (I just love chickens... Is that normal?).
too funny. my girls hate the rain. like they are all worried it will mess up their feathers. I have also noticed the more in "captivity" they are, they are getting a little feisty with each other.

mine would take flight from the coop door landing in the snow way far out in the yard.. to stand until i picked them up and put them back in the coop. what a riot.
lots and lots of snow. we've been seeing it on the news. perfect for the season. and chickens in boots? how cute would that be?
Hahaha!! Funny post and love the pics. My Ellie doesn't like the snow either. She's so little that's it's usually above her head.
LOL Most of our ladies don't care one way or another but Miss Queen we can barely get out. There is a reason for this. She is on her third season. Her first season, the kids didn't realize that the hen would not want to play in the snow. They were jumping in the snow bank and decided to throw MQ in with them. She was a decidedly wet and unhappy hen. After I got done LMAO I told the kids never to do that again but the damage was done. Now the only way she leaves the coop is if we shovel a path for her. LOL

Oh poor chickens, they really would love to be in Hawaii (where they run wild).
We shoveled a section out for our girls and threw a thick layer of hay on top; they gave their approval after 4 days on strike, which I wrote about here:

**WARNING - when they do come out, they head straight for the shoveled and cleared areas. All the better to drop their plops perfectly where you will step with your Vibram-soled (read: deeply textured and difficult - nigh, impossible - to clean off) snow boots so that you can track it right into your house and your freshly mopped floor. Just wanted to let you know...

This is hilarious... and so, so true! :) It's like they see the "white" line and they all stop right there. Don't cross that line! I was a little concerned that they would be bored hanging out in the coop all day but we give them scraps from the kitchen and an apple here & there (plus their daily feedings)... and they are happy as could be.

don't you feel so sorry for them??? i think our girls our quite glad the snow is gone. i'll be glad when their ground dries up a bit - it's a muck fest in their run. merry christmas!
