I almost gave up on carrots after last year. We have so much clay in our soil that once it dries out it is like concrete. Not so good for growing carrots. I found a packet of "Short and Sweet" carrots from Burpee this year and thought I'd give it one more try. Hence... carrot torpedos!
Took a shovel to the row this afternoon to dig a few up for dinner: chicken stew with peas, carrots, and potato dumplings.Four carrots = 1.5 pounds!
Bombs away!

My kind neighbor brought over a bunch of carrots just like yours--I've been eating them like crazy!
I don't know everything in your garden is enormous! you must have one very green thumb! Carrot torpedos lol love that : )
I love it--carrot torpedos!
Looks like something you'd see Bugs Bunny eating!
When I saw these on flickr this morning I couldn't believe it!
Leigh you take "gardening" to new heights!

okay - that is a carrot. wow. almost a meal in itself!
Wowee! Those are some carrots!
ha! my comment was going to be bombs away, but you beat me to the punch!
this was our first year for carrots, and it was pretty much a crap shot, weak little things, but the rabbit loved the tops, for sure! next year, we'll work on the soil and see!
Oh my gosh...they're HUGE! Wow...I couldn't even get mine past the sprout stage! Dang earwigs... I bet those are tasty...you'll have to let us know how that stew tasted!
WOW! i know everyone else has said it, but those are massive! I just finished pulling up all of my carrots the other day. I blanched and froze them all to get us partway through the winter.
Crikey what whoppers! What will make with them... a large carrot cake perhaps?
Good gracious! We've heavy soil here in Ireland which isn't good for carrots although I'd like to give them a try in some sort of sandy medium. Well done BG!
These look great! We've taken to growing our carrots in a whiskey barrel because our clay is so hard. We might have to give these a try! Thanks for posting.
Wow. Those are AWESOME!
We had tried short and sweet a while ago while growing carrots in containers at our apartment. The "short" was the advantage as we did not have deep containers on our balcony, or rather the deep ones already had tomatos, peppers, and cucumbers in them.
We tried the remaining seed in our garden once we moved to our house. It's also a heavy clay soil area. The seed did not germinate well and the clay caused forked roots, even in this variety.
Maybe I'd have good results with fresh seed of this variety. We love carrots but have not been able to grow them. Maybe we'll give it another try...
Oh my! That is quite the carrot. I recently picked up and sowed both the Short n' Sweet and Petite 'n Sweet from Burpee....glad I did after seeing your 'super-crop'!
It's like a carrot on steroids! Love it. Your dinner sounds delish.
my lord what carrots. I'll have to write those down for next year!
the most stunning carrots I've ever seen!
Wow!
Short, and Sweet..and Fat! My goodness, how do you get them to spread out like that?!
they're wonderful! I hope they tasted as sweet as they look :-)
Enough carrot for one whole cake! Wow!
I am so impressed at your carrots! It seems like one carrot would make a whole meal?! : )
Clay? Did you say clay? We can make pots fri\om our soil...so I must try these carrots next year!
mammoth and amazing!! well done Leigh!
WOWZA! How do you do it?
Saturday I made a yummy Asian carrot soup with some of our (stumpy little) crop. It was unusual and unusually good.
Now they are a good sized carrot lol. If the clay is aproblem, grab some Gypsum, dig into the soil and water in well, will break the clay down, worked a treat for us.
