Bumper Blues

Blues from this morning.

It's been a good year so far in the blueberry patch. Spent some time this morning picking with Dad before the sun came up. This mornings yield - Seven pounds!

I was inspired by Freedom Gardens to keep track of how much we produce from the garden this year. So far we have:

29.5 pounds blueberries
12 zucchini (didn't weigh)

We are planning to harvest some honey today! More on that tomorrow...

Beegirl, these seven pounds of blueberry can cost a lot of money here. Blueberry is expensive here. And by the time they arrive here at the supermarkets, they are often not so fresh anymore. It is so nice to have them straight from your own garden... and so plenty!

I was thinking that same thought this morning, how I should be keeping track of what comes from the garden this year - not only for my benefit, but a fun project for the kids to weigh, graph, rejoice, be grateful...

What kind of blueberries do you grow? Pennsylvania Atomic Hyperdrive?

Happy Thursday!

That is SO COOL! Amazing! I would like to plant blueberries next year...or maybe in the fall to let them get established? Do you know what's best? And...another question...how many plants do you have? I don't know that we need that many blueberries...but I supposed they can always be frozen!!

I haven't joined the Freedom Gardens bandwagon yet...I don't think my little 7 tomatoes even weighed a pound...lol!

I am berry jealous right now. I'd love to have those stashed in my freezer!

We used to live on a lake where high-bush blueberries grew along the banks. Our summer recreation included hours of canoeing slowly along and picking gallons of blueberries. Our bushes here are new, and our yields are baby-size. Your abundant harvest brings back such happy memories of gabbing with my dad and reaching for those wonderful berries. Our freezer was always full, and we had the best blueberry pie whenever we craved it. Enjoy some for us too! WOW!

Seven pounds! Impressive! You are going to be one happy girl come winter : ) Your photos are looking great! What are you using for a camera? I just got a new one and have to play around with it and learn it first, I have been a tad intimidated to make the switch but I know it will be fun and worth it : )

That is a lot of blueberries! I got 12 pounds when I went picking and I thought that was a lot. Most of mine are in the freezer now but we still have a few fresh ones to munch on.
