Rain and the Basement

It has been raining and storming here all day.  Normally that isn't a bad thing, but when you have family visiting from Seattle, who are hoping for some warm weather and sun...

I ended up in my parent's basement today as their hot water heater died and started leaking everywhere.  It reminded me of when I was little.  On rainy days when we couldn't go outside to play we would end up in the basement.  Refrigerator boxes turned into space ships.  Tent camps grew from the clotheslines.  The general store would appear on the cellar stairs with onions and canned goods.  Aprons and magic capes flew from the sewing machine.

This is a picture of the base to my fathers workbench.  There used to be chalk in one of the "C" drawers for me. Especially great for drawing pictures on the concrete basement floors on a rainy day!

How fun! I used to love playing "store" and "school" and "house"...what fun memories. I a envious of the rain...it's my favorite weather!

And off the topic of your post...I emailed you directly last week (? I think? Maybe it went to spam?) asking if you wouldn't mind recommending a good drawing pen. I want to actually USE my Moleskines that are taking up shelf space and DRAW. I haven't drawn in so long...

Anyway...if you don't mind...and if you have time...enjoy your company!

well, i can tell you that we have not had rain in Seattle for at least a week - maybe two although today is overcast to say the least.

I grew up playing in our basement too. My favorite was playing restaurant.

I was flicking through your flicker pics the other day - your journals are AMAZING. I even showed my son.

We used to hide under the stairs that led to our basement - and the fruit room (what we called the root cellar) was just about the scariest place to be. Oh, the memories...

What a great looking vintage workbench. We've been lots of rain too - I could use some sun myself. -Jackie

My basement was my own personal play house when I was little! It's been raining here for what seems like forever lately!

so what's in the H-I drawer?

I loved my Grandfather's desk growing up, used to sit at it and play office all day long. he had our pictures along with my aunts and uncles under the glass and a beautiful picture of my Grandmother when she was in her 20's where she was to die for!

i hadn't thought of that for ages, thanks!
