We've let the girls go a bit past normal harvest time to see how they are doing. Due to all the swarming in the spring, we won't be harvesting any honey this year. To give them a better chance of getting through the winter we have decided to leave what little they stored on the hives.
Gwen isn't looking good. The queen was barely laying when we checked last month and today I didn't see any larvae in the comb. There is about one card of bees left. It was too late in the season to re-queen, so we are just going to watch and see what happens.
It was warm enough yesterday to pull the extra supers off that they didn't use. The girls are still bringing in yellow and orange pollen. Good to see after a few cold nights here.
